History

The Centre was completed in early 1998 after many years of discussion, planning and fundraising. It was originally conceived as the new home for Southgate Hockey Club, who needed to relocate from their previous ground at the Walker Ground in Southgate, in order to provide the highest standard of hockey facilities.

That concept quickly grew into one providing a range of facilities to a variety of local sport and commercial organisations. Funding was secured from the Sports Lottery Fund, Middlesex University, and a range of commercial and volunteer sources.

The site is owned by The Berkeley Group, who lease it to the charity Southgate Sports and Leisure Trust (SSLT). SSLT appointed us, Southgate Hockey Centre Limited, to operate the ground on their behalf, and therefore all clubs and users hire the facilities from us.
